SKINCARE TREATMENTS YOU CAN TRY AT HOME

A facial treatment is a well-deserved act of self-pampering and due to the circumstances of the national lockdown, it’s a great way of keeping your skin healthy and invigorated from the comfort of your home. You can opt for what’s sitting in your pantry or medicine cabinet and use home remedies for a clear and smooth skin.

Turn your home into your own spa with these simple and natural treatments for your skin:

Almond-Sugar Facial Scrub

This facial scrub can help with removal of dead skin cells and leave your skin looking smoother and brighter.

What you need:

  • 3 tablespoons of fresh cream
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of ground almonds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

How to use:
Mix all ingredients and apply the mixture on your face in a circular motion. Wash the scrub off your face first with warm water and then with cold water and pat your face dry.

Avocado-Honey Moisturizer

This avo-honey moisturizer can help your skin look youthful and smooth by retaining the necessary moisture and acting as a temporary filler for wrinkles.

What you need:

  • 3 tablespoons of fresh cream
  • 1/4 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon honey

How to use:
Mix all ingredients in a blender and apply the mixture to your skin. Leave it on for at least an hour. Rinse off with warm water.

Acne Spot Lemon Treatment

This treatment is perfect to help make your blemish disappear as yeast fights bacteria and lemons helps dry the blemish.

What you need:

  • Brewer’s yeast
  • A squeeze of lemon juice
  • Water

How to use:
Make a paste using a little bit of brewer’s yeast, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a bit of water. Apply right on your blemish and leave for 10 minutes, cover with a bandage.

Basil Toner

If your skin is acne-prone, this tone is for you. The basil acts as an antiseptic, helps clear acne-causing bacteria, and improves circulation to the skin.

What you need:

  • 3 tablespoons dried basil leaves
  • 1 cup boiling water

How to use:
Crush up the dried basil leaves and mix them into a cup of boiling water. Once the mixture cools, strain out the leaves, put it in a spray bottle and spritz your skin. Use a cotton ball or pad to spread the toner gently around your face.

Oatmeal Honey Mask 

Oatmeal also makes a great exfoliator or mask.

What you need:

  • 2 tbsp of oats
  • tablespoon of honey
  • a dash of water

How to use:

Mix all three ingredients and warm it up then rub it into your skin. You can use it just to exfoliate and wash it off right away, or leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes as a soothing, hydrating mask.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil contains anti-microbial properties and could be a great ally in your battle against acne. A study from the Journal of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology revealed that topical products containing 5% tea tree oil were effective at treating mild to moderate acne. Participants who received a treatment containing tea tree oil were up to five times more likely to experience a reduction in acne than those treated with a placebo product.

Green Tea Extract

According to WebMD, green tea contains antioxidants that can help protect against skin issues such as acne while fight against free radicals. Moreover, studies show that applying products with 2% green tea extract twice a day reduced acne in adolescents with mild acne.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has numerous healing properties, from soothing sunburns to clearing up acne and improving skin appearance. A 2008 study suggests that taking a daily gel aloe supplement significantly reduced the appearance of wrinkles in just 90 days. Another study shows that applying aloe gel to the skin significantly reduced the appearance of wrinkles and also added collagen and hydrated skin.
