SPRING CLEAN YOUR SKIN
SPRING CLEAN YOUR SKIN
Spring is here and just like our homes need a spring clean so does our skin. When the winter cold moves out and the spring brings in the warmer weather and sunny days, it’s a good time to take a look at your skin care regime and do a little spring cleaning of your own. More sunshine, rising temperatures and allergens present new challenges for your skin. However, with a little care and attention you can quickly get your skin back on track.
So out with the old and in with the new. Here are a few simple tips for a glowing, soft and happy skin this spring.
- Spring clean your beauty bag
Start by cleaning your makeup brushes. They can harbor bacteria and clog pores if they aren’t cleaned regularly. Then throw away any skin care products over a year old if they are in a sealed container or any skin care products over six months old if they are in jarred or open container.
2. Let your skin breathe
Foundations can lead to clogged pores and acne as well as highlight dry areas and lines. This spring let your skin breathe a sigh of relief. As part of your spring clean, try lay off the heavy foundation for at least a few days of the week or use it only for special occasions. You can use a light concealer instead to cover up any uneven areas.
3. Protect your skin
As South Africans we know how powerful the sun is in these parts of the world and as long as there’s daylight, our skin is under attack. Powerful rays are responsible for aging skin, skin cancer, and all kinds of skin damage. Look for moisturisers or foundations with an SPF of at least 30. If you’re spending the day outdoors, up that number to 50.
4. Hydrate.
Drink lots of water for less breakouts and perfectly hydrated skin.
5. Give your lips some love
Are you experiencing dry or chapped lips? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! Make a habit of carrying a protective lip balm with you. Choose one with hydrating ingredients like beeswax, Shea butter, nut oils, or cocoa butter.
6. Exfoliate
During winter, dead skin cells accumulate and build up on the surface of your skin. That’s why when your skin is extra dry you need to exfoliate more to speed up the turnover of skin cells, remove dry, flaky skin and reduce impurities that can cause blackheads. It’s important not to use harsh surfactants and scrubs with uneven surfaces.
7. Pamper yourself
After so many months of dry, harsh winter, you skin deserves some pampering, especially the kind that make is glow!
Unlike other oxygen facials, the Intraceuticals Topical Hyperbaric Oxygen System uses therapeutic oxygen under pressure to infuse a special serum of modified hyaluronic acid, essential vitamins, botanicals, antioxidants and amino peptides to the skin. Why opt for an oxygen facial? Re-hydrated, plumped up skin in less than an hour! Once hydration is balanced the skin looks and feels healthier and more vital!
The Vampire facial uses micro-needling to administer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to stimulate collagen. This therapy involves injecting of your own platelets and fibrin in the face, hands, and neck, to treat wrinkles, acne scarring, and stretch marks. The Vampire facial is less invasive than plastic surgery, takes about 20 minutes, and the improvements lasts up to 18 months.
