So why does our skin age and how does Botox help?
Well, aging skin is, of course, caused by many different factors. Some external, such as the sun, inadequate skincare routine, stress or lack of sleep and some are internal – such as genetics. Vertical lines in particular, are caused by the contraction of muscles which fold the skin when you frown or concentrate. This results in permanent creases which, overtime, become more apparent and make our patient feel self-conscious. Of course, the lines between your eyes are not the only ones that Botox can treat and we will talk about the various lines that Botox can treat later on.

WHAT TYPES OF LINES CAN I TREAT WITH BOTOX?
Botox is great for those vertical lines between the brows that can make us look severe or unapproachable. But many patients come to see me at Medi-Sculpt to treat forehead line as well as crow’s feet. Botox injections can partially prevent those lines from forming by paralyzing muscles that produce them.
Did you know? In addition to cosmetic uses, Botox can also treat hyperhidrosis, migraines and lazy eye.
HOW DO I PERFORM BOTOX INJECTIONS AT MEDI-SCULPT?
I inject Botox at my Medi-Sculpt practice and it does not require any kind of anaesthesia. The process takes just a few minutes which means you can even come during your lunch break as there is no downtime!
Using a very fine needle, I inject a diluted solution of Botox into the facial muscle whose contractions we wish to control. After this injection, the muscles can no longer contract, relaxing these wrinkles. It may sound too good to be true but this is precisely why Botox is ever so popular at my practice. This procedure simply works wonders on aging skin. However, if you are worried about injections – we can provide a topical cream to numb the skin.
Are you ELIGIBLE for botox injections?
Many Medi-Sculpt patients choose Botox treatments to reduce or prevent the signs of aging, especially facial wrinkles, while desiring to achieve a naturally rested and youthful appearance. Botox is a procedure I recommend in particular to people who are considering face lifts or brow lifts but do not show severe signs of ageing and/or are afraid to go under the knife.
Furthermore, one of the biggest advantages of Botox is that it is not permanent. This means that you are in total control of your appearance and can gage if/when you need to come back for additional maintenance injections.
It is a procedure that both men and women enjoy. These past few years we have actually seen a major increase in our male clientele when it comes to Botox. However, if you have a family history of neuromuscular disease or are nursing or pregnant, you are unfortunately not eligible for Botox injections.
At Medi-Sculpt, we want you to know precisely what is involved within the treatment and we always inform all of our patients that Botox injections work well on wrinkles caused by movement of facial muscles, but will not alter those caused by gravity or exposure to the sun. I want you to keep in mind that Botox will not stop the natural process of ageing and neither will it protect your skin from the effects of the sunrays. So remember to carry on taking good care of your skin after the procedure.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOUR BOTOX PROCEDURE?
Your appointment will not take more than an hour in total; and afterwards, you will be able to resume your normal daily activities, hence why we refer to it as “lunchtime procedure”. Together we will talk about any possible side effects but the most common ones are minor bruising and headaches which could last up to two days after the injection.
TREATMENT RESULTS
As mentioned earlier, there may be some bruising at first and it will take at least 3 days for the initial results to appear. Expect to enjoy the full results one week after the injection. Generally, our Botox patients are thrilled to notice that their Botox results last up to 4 months post procedure. That being said, please keep in mind that the treated muscles will inevitably and gradually regain their ability to contract, and cause wrinkles. At this time, you may wish to return for a follow-up injection of Botox.
Some of my patients want to experience the amazing benefits of Botox injections but are scared to end up with the “frozen” or “surprised” look. This is definitely not something that you need to worry about if you come to our Medi-Sculpt practice. Even though the Botox I inject stops the muscles from contracting, my goal is to preserve your ability to raise your eyebrows in a natural manner and your overall facial expressions will remain untouched.
DO BOTOX INJECTIONS HURT?
My patients always report minimal pain that can be compared to a bug bite. This is because I inject Botox with a very fine needle and use only a small amount of liquid. Therefore, no sedation is required, and you can drive yourself home or back to the office straight after. However, topical numbing cream is available should you wish.
DID YOU KNOW?! Botox can be combined with other procedures such as chemical peels, and dermal fillers to provide optimal, longer-lasting results.
Botox combined with dermal fillers is referred to as a liquid facelift. This article will tell you more about liquid facelifts
