What is bruxism?
Bruxism, commonly known as teeth grinding, occurs when you gnaw or clench your teeth, whether during the day or at night. Teeth grinding can cause severe damage to the teeth, leading to chips or cracks. The tooth enamel may also wear out, exposing the inner layers of the tooth. Furthermore, increased damage from bruxism can cause tooth sensitivity and pain.
What are the effects of teeth grinding?
Teeth grinding can cause an increase in the size of the masseter muscle as well as pain, tenderness and temporal-mandibular joint (TMJ) problems. This habit can result in headaches, earaches, facial pain, chipped teeth and chewed tissue on the inside of the mouth. However, injecting Botulinum Toxin into the masseter muscle provides instant relief from jaw pain, tension and headaches. Patients also see a dramatic change in the way their face looks. The square, severe appearance of their lower face softens into a more normal and aesthetically pleasing jawline, offering a hopeful solution to the challenges of bruxism.
How long will botulinum toxin treatment take?
The entire treatment only takes 10 minutes. It is a scheduled medication and needs to be administered by our trained doctor. No anaesthetic is required. You can return to normal activities immediately afterwards, providing a quick and easy solution to your bruxism concerns.
When will botulinum toxin start to work?
Visible effects take place within 2-4 weeks, and full effect is seen within 4 weeks.
How long will the botulinum toxin effect last?
The effects of Botulinum Toxin treatments usually last for 6 months, depending on the individual, and sometimes longer if the second treatment is given within
4 months.
How does Dr Reddy ensure a safe and smooth Botulinum toxin delivery?
It’s important to note that, like any medical procedure, Botulinum Toxin treatment may have some side effects. These can include temporary bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site. However, these effects are usually mild and resolve quickly. Dr Reddy carefully selects the dose of treatment, mindful of the areas that require shots. The injections are aimed at specific points in the muscles that cause clenched jaws and bruxing.
As a highly qualified doctor and licensed aesthetic medical practitioner, Dr Reddy ensures your safety throughout the treatment process, providing you with the confidence and security you need during your bruxism treatment.
