What is subcision?
Subcision is a minor medical procedure that breaks up fibrous bands that result in rolling scars. This specialised technique is performed under local anaesthesia by inserting a needle under the skin parallel to the skin surface. The needle is carefully advanced or retracted in a piston-like fashion, severing the tethering bands. The procedure results in bruising, which fades within seven days.
This approach, when appropriate, offers a promising path to significant improvement, usually within two to three sessions. Rolling acne scars, in particular, respond remarkably well to this technique.
