8 TIPS TO AGING NATURALLY FROM CELEBRITIES

8 TIPS TO AGING NATURALLY FROM CELEBRITIES

In today’s youth-obsessed culture, there’s always pressure to go under the knife.

A report by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has shown that consumers are more obsessed with celebrities now than ever before, so much so in fact that there is an increase in requests for celebrity procedures. This trend is fuelled by an all-consuming media society, where every aspect of their lives are lived online and through social media. Moreover, a survey led by American aesthetic news website ZALEA suggests that 40% of millennials have either undergone a cosmetic procedure or are considering one in the next year. Plus, they spend so much time on social media that it is no surprise they are being swayed by key influencers and celebrities talking about which treatments they’re having done.

Celebrities hold a huge amount of power when it comes to influencing others on what they should wear, how they should look and even what they should eat! Many celebrities and well-known TV stars are known for their massive influence in changes in aesthetics trends. For example, the Kardashian sisters, thanks to whom buttock lifts and lip injections are on the rise. However, the ones we should look up to are the ones who manage to maintain their natural beauty over time.

From supermodels like Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell to Oscar winners like Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep, there are celebrities who prove that with the right skincare regimen beauty only gets better with age.

Halle Berry is known for her natural beauty. “I see women in their 30s getting plastic surgery, pulling this up and tucking that back. It’s like a slippery slope – once you start, you pull one thing one way and then you think, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to do the other side’,” Halle said. For Halle Berry, the dewier her complexion, the better. “No matter what age you are, you always look a little better when your skin is a little dewy, not too powdery. I went through phases where all I wanted to do was be matte and powdered up, but then I found it wasn’t the best look for me,” she told InStyle.com. “Before I do my makeup, I spray my face with rosewater and let that sink in. It keeps my makeup looking very dewy, and I feel like it just makes me look more youthful, alive, and fresh.”

Salma Hayek thinks every woman has a right to get plastic surgery, but she doesn’t necessarily believe that it’s the best idea. “Plastic surgery is like the uniform of a generation. And it’s not necessarily beautiful. It’s not wrinkled-looking, but it’s not beautiful,” Hayek stated. Hayek’s formula for perfect skin involves never going to bed with a full face on. “I’ve never gone to bed without washing my face. Never in my life,” she told InStyle. “Even if I’m sick, tired—heck, even if I was drunk! I might forget to take off the dress, the shoes, and the jewelry, but not the makeup. It’s second nature.”

Jane Seymour has never had any pharmaceutical surgery and she only relies on her some trusty makeup to cover a few blemishes. Her secret to looking as flawless as she does are a good moisturizer, wearing sunscreen, exfoliating, and exercise. She does everything she can to take care of her skin by using high quality products.

According to Penelope Cruz, the best beauty advice she ever got came from her mother. “[She always said] to eat healthy and get a solid amount of rest. I remember her sounding like a broken record telling us to eat our veggies and go to sleep,” she previously told InStyle. “She annoyed me, but now, as a mother, I hear myself saying the same things.”

“My mother taught me to always wear sunscreen, and to treat my beauty products as an investment,” Jessica Alba told InStyle. “She would cheap out on her clothes before she would ever skimp on her skincare or makeup. She’d say, ‘Listen, this is your face. It’s all you’ve got.'”

Goldie Hawn also looks great for her age. She tries to remain as healthy as possible through juice cleanses, exercising regularly, and spurts of meditation. It makes sense that the actress known for making us laugh says that consistently staying positive also helps her to age gracefully.

If there’s something to learn from these celebrities is that maintaining a gorgeous, healthy and glowing complexion is not as hard as it seems. Here are some tips to aging naturally:

  1. Remove your makeup at night

Make it a rule to always wash your face before bed, especially if you wear makeup daily. Use a gentle makeup remover or coconut oil to help you remove all the residues.

  1. Wash your face with a toner in the morning

In the morning your skin needs a refresher. A toner will balance your skin’s pH so it will not get very oily or dry during the day.

  1. Use a good night cream

During the night your skin repair itself and a good night cream can make a huge difference. Use a natural and organic one, preferably featuring hyaluronic acid to help reinforce natural correction mechanisms of the skin.

  1. Moisturize

Make sure you’re moisturizing twice a day. When it comes to your skin, hydration is everything. Look for hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, peptides, and ceramides.

  1. Exfoliate

Exfoliation is an essential step in any good skincare regime. Use a chemical exfoliant which penetrates your skin, dislodging and dissolving dead skin cells while promoting skin regeneration, leaving your skin clean and radiant.

  1. Watch what you put into your body

For a healthy skin, it’s also important to want what also goes into your body. Drink more water and limit processed foods and sugar. It will make a huge difference on your skin.

  1. Protect your skin against the sun

Protecting your skin from sun damage is of utmost importance. 90% of how your skin ages is directly linked to sun exposure. Protect your skin by using a sunscreen with SPF 30 or above even when cloudy.

  1. Visit your dermatologist

Talk to your doc about preventative measures such as keeping your skin clear and glowing. Ask about what type of products are best for both your skin type and skin goals, and if they’d recommend any treatments. Ask for a Visia scan prior to any skincare treatment.

A final piece of advice, prevention is key. The sooner you start taking care of your skin, the better you’ll be able to keep aging at bay.
