Get Summer Savvy!

Get Summer Savvy!

Summer is here again, and over time, UV exposure destroys the underlying collagen in skin, resulting in skin laxity, which in turn causes jowl formation and sagging of the jawline and the skin around the cheek and eye areas. This process is known as photo-ageing.

Prevention is your best defence against photo-ageing, but if this warning comes too late, take heart. There are Anti-Ageing and Aesthetic Solutions and therapies today such as laser and dermal fillers that replace lost collagen, even out your complexion and plump up your skin – diminishing the effects of sun damage and restoring your youthful glow.

Of course any reason is a good one when it comes to getting rid of worry lines, so consider a round of Botox for a fresh, line-free look.

Reddy Advice
As summer has arrived in sunny South Africa, it’s time to slather on that zinc-based sunscreen as liberally as you dare and try avoid spending too much time outdoors between 11am and 3pm, when the UV is at its strongest. Also remember to drink lots of water and to give your skin extra moisturising care after outdoor fun.

Kick off your summer by sloughing off those layers of dead winter skin, for a healthy, radiant glow! Start by giving your body an all-over exfoliation. The skin on your body is tougher than on your face, so invest in a body exfoliating scrub or make it yourself. Here’s an easy to make body scrub, using ingredients common to most households.

Summer Body Scrub

Ingredients
2 cups sugar or finely ground table salt (white or brown sugar will work and both are more gentle than salt, though brown sugar is gentler on sensitive skins)
1 cup olive oil/coconut oil/baby oil
A few drops of your favourite essential oil

Method
Mix the ingredients together until they form a paste

Application
Slather your entire body (except your face and neck) from shoulders to feet, with the paste and rub it in using gentle, circular motions to work the dead skin loose. Rinse under the shower, using soap or body wash, towel dry, moisturise and viola, your skin will be soft and radiant!

Of course your face and neck will also benefit immensely from exfoliation. Do exercise caution though and use only reputable products that are made specifically for faces and be extra careful to use feather-light circular motions.

Exfoliating never feels better than in time for Spring, but it should in fact form part of your regular beauty routine. Don’t do it more than once or twice a week maximum though, or it will dry your skin out.
